The third annual Nausori Rugby 10s Tournament is set to take place, building on the success of its previous two editions. Organized by the Nausori Rugby Club, this event continues to attract teams from across the region, highlighting the growing popularity of rugby.

This year’s tournament features a total prize pool of $15,000, with $5,000 earmarked for the Men’s Cup winner. A competitive lineup includes 32 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams vying for a share of the prize money, including $2,000 for the women’s competition. Notable teams participating include Unity Brothers, Delta Brothers, Tovolea Knights, and the Nacovu Blues.

Malakai Yamaivava, the tournament organizer, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, indicating that proceeds from the tournament will aid in promoting rugby within the local community. Additionally, funds raised will contribute to a project aimed at purchasing gym equipment for the Nausori Rugby Club. “The Club doesn’t want to rely on handouts but first help themselves in upgrading its training equipment that will also help the fitness of the players,” Yamaivava explained.

The Nausori Rugby 10s will unfold on April 11 and 12 at Ratu Cakobau Park, promising a weekend of thrilling rugby action and community engagement. This tournament not only showcases players’ skills and sportsmanship but also emphasizes the importance of proactive support for local sports development, reinforcing the club’s commitment to nurturing talent and enhancing facilities for future athletes.

As local rugby tournaments like this one gain traction, they foster a sense of community and pride, offering players a platform to shine and spectators the chance to enjoy a lively sporting atmosphere.
