Holy Trinity Primary School participated with excitement in the Get Into Rugby Plus Festival held at Bidesi Ground in Laucala Bay, Suva, this week. This primary school rugby event highlighted the importance of combining sports with core values, showcasing young talent in a supportive environment.

Ana Sorovi, the GIR Plus coach for Holy Trinity, expressed the team’s eagerness to partake in this new experience, which also provided an opportunity for parents to engage with the activity. Sorovi emphasized that the event was not solely competitive; rather, it focused on teaching participants the rugby rules and the DRIPS values that extend beyond the sport into life lessons in both school and the community.

The DRIPS acronym represents the values of discipline, respect, integrity, passion, and solidarity, which are fundamental to the GIR Plus program. These principles assist in merging sports with personal development, ensuring that players grow both on and off the field.

Sorovi noted that the team had prepared by learning approximately 16 essential skills, helping them to teach these concepts effectively to the players. Although heavy rain interrupted the games, Holy Trinity Primary School, alongside other participating institutions, left with a commemorative trophy, reaffirming the success of the event.

Overall, the Get Into Rugby Plus Festival represented more than just a sporting event; it was a celebration of community values and personal growth through sport. This positive initiative encourages the youth to embrace sports while instilling important life lessons, making it a valuable experience for everyone involved.
