Fiji rugby sevens player Ponipate Loganimasi is set to potentially make his Test debut for the Flying Fijians in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan at Hanazono Rugby Stadium in Osaka. This opportunity arises after head coach Mick Byrne announced Ilaisa Droasese will replace Epeli Momo on the wing, giving Loganimasi a spot on the bench.

Byrne praised Loganimasi’s impressive training performance, stating, “He’s training very well and he looks awesome,” expressing enthusiasm about giving the Olympic silver medallist a chance to play.

The competition for a spot in the Match 23 has been intense, with rookie lock Mesake Vocevoce and prop Meli Tuni also making a return. Vocevoce was absent during the semi-final against the USA due to the passing of his father, while Tuni steps in for the injured Peni Ravai.

Byrne noted that preparations have gone well despite the hot and humid conditions, indicating the team is well-organized and ready for the match. He acknowledged a few players have been dealing with injuries, including Ravai and Selestino Ravutaumada, but the team remains focused.

Byrne also highlighted the performance of Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula at fullback, emphasizing their singular focus on the final against Japan, which will commence at 10:05 PM.
