The Oceania Rugby Under-20s Challenge is set to take place in Fiji from May 28 to June 7, with the matches hosted at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Oceania Rugby confirmed the tournament’s schedule, emphasizing the participation of teams from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Canada, marking Canada’s first appearance in this prestigious event.
Fiji Rugby Union’s Elite Pathways manager, Viliame Gadolo, stated that the tournament underscores Fiji’s role in uniting the Pacific through rugby, while showcasing the region’s rich sporting culture and traditions. Fiji’s U20 team will kick off the competition with a match against Tonga on May 28, followed by encounters with Canada on June 2 and Samoa on June 7.
This event is part of a broader commitment to enhance rugby in the Pacific region, following a highly successful year in 2024 for Oceania Rugby. The inclusion of international teams reflects the growing enthusiasm for the sport and signifies a hope for the continued development of rugby in the region.
In line with previous events, such as the Women’s Championship and the inaugural Oceania Rugby Sevens, these tournaments not only serve as a platform for emerging talents but also foster local pride among fans and players alike. The years ahead look optimistic for rugby in Fiji and the broader Oceania region as these events stimulate grassroots participation and community engagement.
