The students at Nabua Primary School had an unforgettable experience welcoming the Scotland Rugby team just before their match against the Fiji Water Flying Fijians. Over 700 eager students gathered at the school, creating an atmosphere brimming with excitement and joy as they greeted the visiting players.
In addition to their warm welcome, the school showcased cultural performances, including dancers who entertained both the students and the rugby team. The players reciprocated by joining in on the dancing, much to the delight of the children. Principal Filipe Gonedua highlighted the significance of this visit, noting it not only boosted the school’s spirits but also brought the Nabua community together.
“This is a huge boost to Nabua Primary School and the Nabua community,” Gonedua expressed. The event also saw participation from Nabua Secondary School students, amplifying the excitement surrounding the visit.
Preparation for this memorable occasion spanned three weeks, underscoring the community’s eagerness and even resulting in improved school attendance. Gonedua conveyed his gratitude towards the British High Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Fiji Rugby Union for facilitating this inspiring event.
As the Fiji Water Flying Fijians gear up to challenge Scotland at the HFC Bank Stadium on Saturday, this event stands as a poignant reminder of the power of sports to inspire youth and cultivate a love for rugby in Fiji. Engaging with professional athletes not only ignites excitement and hope among young fans but also nurtures their dreams of pursuing the sport at higher levels.
Such initiatives positively impact students’ lives, reminding them that they, too, can aspire to greatness in rugby, much like the athletes they idolize.
