Carletta Yee, a promising 17-year-old rugby talent from Lakeba, has joined the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua training squad, following in the footsteps of several rugby icons from her island, including Ilisoni Taoba and Akapusi Qera. With a background in leading her school team, Yee’s journey began in 2021 when she co-captained the Striders.
Having recently showcased her skills by leading the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School Under-18 team to the finals and guiding the Suva U20 team to victory in the ANZ Marama Championship, her aspirations have only grown. Now, she expresses her excitement and gratitude to be part of the Drua’s Super W squad, emphasizing her commitment to balancing her academic pursuits with rugby.
Yee stated, “Every girl who loves rugby, it will always be their dream to play for the Drua. The learning and the environment we are in is nothing else but a blessing.” She hopes to represent the Drua in front of her family during a home game, and her long-term ambition includes making the Fijiana XV team for the World Cup.
In addition to her athletic goals, she recognizes the importance of discipline and maintaining strong support networks to succeed in both her studies and sport. Carletta Yee stands as an inspiring example for young athletes, showing that with determination and support, dreams can be achieved.
