Playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team in the prestigious Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament was a heartfelt achievement for fullback Waisake Ravuiwasa. Making his debut in this iconic event became even more memorable as he had the opportunity to compete alongside his older brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, who plays as a tighthead prop. Together, they led their team to a narrow victory over the Army, clinching a 20-19 win at HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Ravuiwasa brothers hail from Tavuki in Taveuni and have connections to Susui in Vanuabalavu, Lau through their maternal side. Their victory was deeply personal, as they dedicated the win to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, a former police officer stationed at Taveuni, who passed away in June.
Waisake expressed his gratitude for the chance to share the field with his brother, saying, “I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time. My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wished he was here to see us.”
Inoke has been an integral part of the team for the past nine years, bringing experience and skill to the field.
This story embodies the spirit of family, resilience, and dedication in the face of adversity. It reminds fans and aspiring athletes alike of the power of perseverance and the importance of honoring one’s roots and loved ones while achieving personal dreams.
The Ravuiwasa brothers will undoubtedly continue to inspire others with their journey, showcasing that with determination and support from family, dreams can become a reality, even amidst challenges.
