Eroni Sarasau, a 19-year-old tight head prop, has embraced the decision to prioritize his rugby career over pursuing university studies. Representing his country in the national Under-20 squad, Sarasau hails from Lomati, Nabukelevu, Kadavu, and has connections to Rotuma through his mother.

Initially set to join university, he chose to participate in national rugby tours instead. “Juggling both education and rugby is a bit tight, so I chose rugby,” he explained, reflecting on the challenges of managing both commitments. Sarasau has been a part of the Fiji Rugby Union High Performance Unit for the past three years and currently plays for the Naitasiri Under-20 team.

Looking ahead, he is determined to achieve his goals in 2025, stating, “I want to make things happen that didn’t happen this year,” emphasizing his aspirations to help create history with his team next year. Inspired by his uncle, Etonia Waqa, who has secured a professional rugby contract, Sarasau is focused on honing the fundamentals of his position, recognizing the importance of mastering skills and techniques to excel.

He admires fellow prop Mesake Doge for his unique abilities and acknowledges the learning journey he’s embarked upon through the High Performance Unit, gaining insights into transitioning from high school to provincial rugby. Sarasau started his rugby career with Naitasiri at the age of 16 and aspires to join the senior team next year when he turns 20.

Sarasau credits his parents and grandparents for their unwavering support throughout his rugby journey, highlighting their role in nurturing his passion since he began playing at eight years old. Having completed his primary education in Kadavu, he further pursued his studies at Ratu Kadavulevu School.
