The FIJI Water Foundation has taken a significant step in supporting youth development in rural Fiji by donating rugby equipment to the Ra Primary Schools Rugby Association during the Ra Kaji Rugby Festival, held at the Ra Sports Ground. This initiative is part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to enhancing the lives of young people through sports.
The festival brought together hundreds of students, teachers, coaches, and parents from various local areas, generating an atmosphere of excitement and community spirit. FIJI Water Foundation’s Director of Philanthropy, Semi Lotawa, expressed pride in backing grassroots initiatives that empower and inspire the youth. He emphasized the importance of investing in students, saying, “When we invest in students, we invest in the future of our communities.” The donated equipment is intended to ensure that young players can train safely, while also instilling essential life values through sport.
In addition to the equipment donation, the Foundation recognized 28 teachers who achieved IRB Level 1 and 2 coaching certifications, made possible through a collaboration with the Fiji Rugby Union and the Ministry of Education. Lotawa elaborated on the importance of supporting educators, referring to them as “unsung heroes” in shaping the lives of young athletes.
The FIJI Water Foundation has also committed to educational support through initiatives like the Classroom Grant Program, which promotes better learning environments in multiple schools, including Naseyani and Rakiraki Methodist. Lotawa noted that educational and sports development go hand in hand, nurturing discipline, respect, teamwork, and passion that benefit students beyond the rugby field.
These initiatives not only focus on athletics but also contribute to a more holistic approach to youth empowerment, aligning with previous community-driven efforts that highlight the transformative power of sports in fostering healthier lifestyles and promoting education.
