The manager of the Dominion Brothers Youth team, Manasa Moto, has highlighted the significance of the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament as a vital opportunity for their young players to gain exposure and experience. As the team enters their second week of preparation, Moto expressed optimism about the players’ awareness of the expectations placed upon them.

Despite ongoing challenges such as transportation issues and limited sponsorship, the team has shown remarkable resilience. Support from senior players currently abroad, who contribute financially to help their junior counterparts, has been crucial in their preparation efforts.

The team’s goal is clear: to advance to the Cup final and defend their title, which underscores the potential of rugby as a pathway to personal and professional development for many players, especially those who have left school. According to Moto, “Most of these youths have dropped out of school and they are using rugby as an opportunity.” He noted the team’s focus on instilling discipline and understanding of the game’s rules as they adapt to several rule changes in sevens rugby.

The Dominion Brothers will compete in Pool A against teams such as Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby. The tournament will take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Moto has encouraged the families of the players and the local community to come out and support the team during this exciting three-day event.

This tournament not only represents a chance for the Dominion Brothers to showcase their talents but also reinforces the transformative power of sports in providing hope and opportunities for young athletes. By focusing on development, discipline, and teamwork, the Dominion Brothers are paving the way for the future stars of Fijian rugby, fostering a sense of community and support that is essential for growth both on and off the field.
