Playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament was a dream realized for fullback Waisake Ravuiwasa. His debut at the Sukuna Bowl was made even more meaningful as he shared the field with his older brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, who plays as tight head prop. Together, they led the team to a narrow victory over the Army team, clinching a 20-19 win at the HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Ravuiwasa brothers hail from Tavuki in Taveuni and are connected through their maternal lineage to Susui in Vanuabalavu, Lau. Their victory held a special significance as they dedicated it to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who served as a police officer at the Taveuni Police Station before his passing in June.
“I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time,” Waisake remarked. “My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wished he was here to see us.”
Inoke has been part of the Blues team for the last nine years, showcasing the family’s continued commitment to the sport.
This heartfelt story highlights the profound bonds of family and the enduring legacy of love and support. As Waisake and Inoke continue their rugby journey, they honor their father’s memory through their achievements on the field. The determination to succeed and the unity between siblings provide an inspiring narrative for aspiring athletes everywhere.
