For fullback Waisake Ravuiwasa, playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team at the prestigious Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament was a dream come true. He made his Sukuna Bowl debut in a match that held special significance, as he was able to compete alongside his older brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, who plays as a tight-head prop. Together, they helped secure a thrilling victory against the Army team, finishing with a score of 20-19 at HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Ravuiwasa brothers proudly represent their roots, hailing from Tavuki in Taveuni, with family ties extending to Susui in Vanuabalavu, Lau. Their victory was especially meaningful as they dedicated it to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who served as a police officer at the Taveuni Police Station before his passing in June.
“I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time,” Waisake expressed, noting how much it meant to him to share this experience with his brother. He fondly remembered their father’s encouragement, saying, “My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wished he was here to see us.”
Inoke has been a consistent presence on the rugby field, having played for the Blues for the past nine years, showcasing his dedication to the sport.
This heartwarming tale highlights not only the bond between the brothers but also their dedication to honoring their father’s legacy. Their perseverance and shared passion for rugby underline the power of family and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams, even in the face of adversity.
Such inspiring narratives remind us of the profound impact of familial support and the strength it brings to achieve our goals.
