Waisake Ravuiwasa’s participation in the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament as a fullback for the Shop N Save Police rugby team has been a significant milestone for him. His debut was particularly memorable as he shared the field with his older brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, a tight head prop. Together, they celebrated a thrilling victory over the Army, clinching a 20-19 win at the HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
Hailing from Tavuki, Taveuni, the Ravuiwasa brothers also have maternal ties to Susui, Vanuabalavu in Lau. The win was especially poignant for the siblings as they dedicated their performance to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who was a police officer at the Taveuni Police Station before his passing in June.
Expressing his gratitude, Waisake stated, “I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time.” He reflected on the encouragement his father gave him, emphasizing that he wished his father could have witnessed their achievement.
Inoke, who has been a dedicated player for the Blues for nine years, also shares in this family triumph, honoring their father’s legacy on the rugby field. This inspiring story not only highlights the bond between the brothers but also showcases how sports can bring families together, even in difficult times.
The Ravuiwasa brothers’ journey is a testament to perseverance and family legacy in sports, reminding us of the impact our loved ones have on our aspirations.
