The Viwa men’s rugby team has faced disqualification from the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament due to concerns about player eligibility. Tournament director Jeff Tamata noted that the decision was difficult but necessary. He underscored the importance of maintaining a level playing field, stressing that “Our priority is the development of grassroots clubs in Fiji.” Tamata mentioned that had Viwa progressed in the tournament and achieved victory, it would not have been regarded as legitimate due to the misrepresentation of their team as a local club.
