The Fiji Bitter Labasa and Savusavu 7s tournaments are poised to create a remarkable rugby experience early next year, with a range of initiatives focused on grassroots development and community involvement.
At a launch event at Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd headquarters in Suva, the details of both tournaments were announced. Organizers are enthusiastic about celebrating rugby alongside Fijian culture and community spirit.
The Labasa 7s is scheduled for January 23-25 at Subrail Park, promising an array of exciting activities, including meet-and-greet sessions with players, live music performances, and engaging activities for fans across all age groups. This approach aims to foster a festive and inclusive atmosphere, making it more than just a standard rugby tournament.
Following closely, the Savusavu 7s will take place from January 30 to February 1, continuing its tradition of promoting rugby development in Fiji’s northern region for over 16 years. Set at Ganilau Park, this tournament will place a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, showcasing efforts such as clean-up campaigns, eco-friendly merchandise, and community enhancement projects. The Savusavu Rugby Club has also committed to constructing five new toilets and bathrooms to improve sanitation in the area.
Mark Spencer, the general manager of Paradise Beverages, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting grassroots rugby. He expressed that these tournaments are about more than just sporting events; they are an opportunity to inspire passion, foster unity, and provide growth opportunities for players.
Overall, these tournaments promise to blend sports enjoyment with significant community engagement and development, paving the way for a brighter future for rugby in Fiji while also creating a sense of togetherness among fans and players alike.
This initiative showcases the potential of sports to bring communities together, highlighting the importance of investing in local development and infrastructure. It presents an optimistic outlook for not only rugby but also the broader engagement of communities in sustainable practices.
