The Fiji Bitter Labasa and Savusavu 7s tournaments are set to provide an extraordinary rugby experience in the early part of next year, with a focus on grassroots development and community involvement. During a recent launch event held at the Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd headquarters in Suva, the organizers presented their vision for these tournaments as a celebration of rugby intertwined with cultural and community activities.
The Labasa 7s, scheduled for January 23-25 at Subrail Park, promises an engaging atmosphere featuring meet-and-greet sessions with players, live music performances, and interactive activities designed for fans of all ages. This approach aims to ensure that the event transcends the boundaries of a conventional rugby tournament, fostering a sense of community and inclusiveness.
On the other hand, the Savusavu 7s, taking place from January 30 to February 1, continues its 16-year tradition of encouraging rugby development in the northern region of Fiji. Hosted at Ganilau Park, this tournament also emphasizes sustainability through initiatives like clean-up campaigns, eco-friendly merchandise, and community improvement projects. In a notable effort, the Savusavu Rugby Club is dedicated to constructing five new toilets and bathrooms to enhance local sanitation.
Mark Spencer, general manager of Paradise Beverages, highlighted the significance of supporting grassroots rugby. He stated, “These tournaments are about more than just sport; they’re about inspiring passion, fostering unity, and providing opportunities for players to grow.”
The upcoming tournaments not only aim to spotlight athletic talent but also to create a vibrant community atmosphere that celebrates heritage, culture, and social responsibility, promising a bright future for rugby in Fiji.
Overall, these initiatives underline a positive commitment to community engagement and sustainable development in sports. The combination of entertainment, culture, and social responsibility sets a promising precedent for future sporting events in the region.
