Waisea Nayacalevu, the captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has announced that the team has yet to receive any communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). This comes in the wake of recent allegations of mismanagement within the organization that surfaced over a week ago.
Nayacalevu stated during a live podcast with social media blogger Lesi Vanuavou that senior players have attempted to reach out to the FRU but have not been successful. “We have yet to hear from any of them; I have contacted Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board Chairman Peter Mazey,” Nayacalevu explained. “He had initially agreed for us (senior players and FRU) to have a meeting, but he became unavailable at the last minute.”
He expressed frustration that since that moment, no other representatives from the FRU have contacted them. “We need to talk and iron out the issues. It is time for a clean up and especially accountability,” Nayacalevu emphasized.
Additionally, he mentioned that emails have been sent to the FRU concerning unpaid salaries for matches played earlier this year against the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks.
