Rugby Coach Stands on Unpaid Wages: What’s Next for Fiji’s FRU?

Etu Tusitala, the former strength and conditioning coach for Fiji’s national sevens team, is experiencing ongoing financial difficulties as the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has failed to pay his outstanding wages, which total $277,000.

Tusitala signed a three-year contract in March 2022 when John O’Connor was the CEO of the FRU, and he received a work permit from the Immigration Department valid until March 2025. However, his contract was terminated unexpectedly, and Tusitala claims he is still owed a significant amount of money.

“I met with FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu last week, and he assured me he would investigate the issue, but I have not received any communication or payment since,” Tusitala stated.

Attempts to get responses from the FRU regarding the payment have gone unanswered, leaving Tusitala and others in the rugby community searching for clarity on the situation.
