Playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament marked a remarkable milestone for fullback Waisake Ravuiwasa. His debut at the Sukuna Bowl was made even more memorable as he took the field alongside his older brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, a tighthead prop, leading their team to a narrow victory over the Army with a score of 20-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Ravuiwasa brothers, who hail from Tavuki, Taveuni, also have maternal roots in Susui, Vanuabalavu, Lau. This victory held significant emotional weight for them as they dedicated their win to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who served as a police officer at the Taveuni Police Station until his passing in June.
Waisake expressed his gratitude, stating, “I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time. My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wished he was here to see us.”
Inoke has been a dedicated player for the Blues for the past nine years, and this victory marks an important chapter in their family’s sports legacy.
This touching story highlights the deep connections family and sports create, showcasing resilience and dedication. The Ravuiwasa brothers not only celebrated a hard-fought victory but also honored their father’s memory, illustrating how sports can unify and uplift families even in challenging times. Their journey serves as an inspiration for many aspiring athletes to pursue their dreams while cherishing their family connections.
