For Waisake Ravuiwasa, playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament was a significant milestone. His debut at this prestigious tournament was particularly memorable as he had the opportunity to compete alongside his elder brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, a tight head prop. Together, they led their team to a tight 20-19 victory over the Army at HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.

Originating from Tavuki in Taveuni, the Ravuiwasa brothers also share maternal roots in Susui, Vanuabalavu, Lau. They dedicated their win to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, a police officer who served at the Taveuni Police station until his passing in June. Waisake expressed heartfelt gratitude for the chance to play with his brother, reflecting on their father’s encouragement to persevere in pursuing their rugby dreams. “I wish he could see us,” Waisake lamented.

Inoke has a long-standing commitment to the sport, having played with the Blues for the past nine years. Their story highlights not only the bond between brothers but also the enduring influence of family in shaping aspirations and shared experiences in sports.

As the Ravuiwasa brothers celebrate this win, it serves as a poignant reminder of the power of family legacy in sports. More than just a game, their journey reflects dedication, resilience, and the support of loved ones, inspiring others to continue pushing forward in their pursuits, even in the face of loss.
