A vibrant rugby training session took place at the National Hockey Center in Laucala, where 40 children aged 5 to 12 participated under the guidance of former national fly half Seremaia Bai. Emphasizing the importance of holistic development alongside rugby skills, Bai highlighted the club’s commitment to nurturing young athletes both on and off the field.

The Eastern Saints rugby club accommodates a variety of age groups, including juniors aged 14 to 18, a girls’ team, a Colts under-23 team, and a premier team, showcasing its inclusive approach to youth sports. Bai expressed optimism about the program’s impact, stating, “The main focus is on rugby, and also for our children to know rugby at a young age.” He believes that this program not only fosters athletic ability but also helps children cultivate valuable life skills.

Bai further articulated a vision of providing a supportive environment, where participation in sports can assist in combating the negative influences in society. “We have a lot of bad things happening in the country, so we want to change this and for kids to know how to play a sport that will not only make them happy but also their families,” said Bai.

He invites more children to join the program, which takes place after school, underlining it as an excellent opportunity for fun and skill development in a beloved sport. This initiative not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages positive social interactions and the cultivation of discipline and teamwork.

Overall, the Eastern Saints rugby club’s training sessions represent a hopeful endeavor to inspire the next generation of well-rounded athletes while also addressing broader social issues through sport.
