Mick’s Fiji Tours has committed over $5,000 in sponsorship for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament, which aims to improve facilities that benefit athletes and the wider community. The announcement was made by Sitiveni Nawaqa, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, during the official launch at their Nadi office yesterday.
Scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, the two-day event seeks to celebrate rugby while highlighting community spirit, resilience, and the potential of young athletes. Nawaqa emphasized that rugby transcends sports; it serves as a unifying force that cultivates passion and teamwork. He believes grassroots rugby is pivotal for shaping a better future for society by investing in youth talent, character development, and fostering lifelong friendships.
Nawaqa, whose roots are in Ekubu Village, Nadroda, expressed his dedication to supporting not only the sport but the communities it represents. His initiative aims to upgrade local infrastructure, reflecting the aspirations of the Vatulele people.
Filipe Qionikorolevu, the tournament director, mentioned that funds raised during the event would enhance facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs, thereby creating safe spaces for the younger generation to develop their skills and engage in sports.
Winners of the men’s rugby tournament will receive $5,000, while the runners-up will get $2,000, and losing semifinalists will earn $500 each. In netball, the winning team will take home $1,000, and the runner-up will get $500.
Treasurer Asesela Naborisi highlighted the importance of building a legacy that demonstrates the limitless achievements possible through hard work, commitment, and teamwork, urging everyone to support one another and invest in a brighter future.
Other sponsors for the tournament include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.
