Ruben Love, a promising utility back for the Hurricanes, has expressed his versatility and eagerness to contribute to his team’s success in the Super Rugby Pacific 2025 season. The 24-year-old began the season at full-back but has recently showcased his skills as a fly-half, helping the Hurricanes secure a four-match unbeaten run and climb to fifth place in the standings.

Having previously made one Test appearance for the All Blacks, Love has made a notable impact by stepping up as the main playmaker for his team. Despite his well-rounded abilities, he stated that he’ll defer to his coaches regarding which position he plays, emphasizing his desire to excel in whichever role he’s assigned.

“I want to be the best player in the world, so if I play 10 then it means I have to be the best 10. If I play full-back then I have to be the best full-back,” Love articulated, reflecting his dedication to improvement.

His transition to fly-half came out of necessity after head coach Clark Laidlaw faced injuries affecting key players, including Brett Cameron. Nevertheless, Love’s positive form highlights a bright spot for the Hurricanes and indicates a promising future for his rugby career.

This situation reflects the resilience and adaptability often necessary in rugby, as players like Love step up to meet challenges head-on. As the Hurricanes continue their season, the combination of experienced players like Love and the integration of newcomers should foster a competitive and hopeful atmosphere within the team. Fans can anticipate exciting performances as Love and his teammates strive for success in the league.
