The Kansas City Royals are in the process of finalizing a five-year contract extension worth $57.5 million with their All-Star third baseman Maikel Garcia, according to reports from ESPN. The agreement also includes a club option for a sixth year and is contingent upon the outcome of a physical examination.

Garcia, 25, enjoyed a standout season, posting a batting average of .286 while contributing 16 home runs, 39 doubles, 74 RBIs, 81 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases across 160 games in the previous season. His impressive performance earned him recognition as the 2025 Gold Glove award winner.

Since joining the Royals organization as an international signing from Venezuela in 2016, Garcia has compiled a career batting average of .263, with a total of 27 home runs, 87 doubles, 184 RBIs, 225 runs, and 83 stolen bases in 449 games since his debut in 2022.

The new contract extension is expected to extend through 2031, covering four years of arbitration eligibility from 2026 to 2029, as well as his first two seasons of free agency. This significant investment highlights the Royals’ commitment to retaining talented players and building a competitive roster for the future.
