Fiji football legend Roy Krishna has made a significant return to his roots by signing with Bula FC, marking the comeback of one of the nation’s most accomplished athletes to domestic football. This move not only enhances Bula FC’s prospects as they prepare for a new chapter, but it also brings Krishna’s extensive international experience and renowned goal-scoring ability to the squad.
Having started his football journey in Labasa, where he honed his skills at All Saints High School, Krishna earned his place as a national hero through his time with Labasa FC. Over his career, he gathered more than 60 caps for the Fiji national team, solidifying his reputation as one of Oceania’s top forwards.
Krishna’s career path has taken him throughout the Pacific and beyond, with standout performances for clubs like Waitakere United, Auckland City, and Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand, before achieving considerable success in India with ATK, Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC, and Odisha FC in the Indian Super League. His crowning achievement came in 2019 when he received the Johnny Warren Medal for being the A-League’s best player, concluding the season as the top goal-scorer.
Despite interest from clubs overseas, Krishna was driven by a desire to return home and give back to the sport that nurtured him. “It’s been an amazing journey playing abroad, but there’s something special about coming back home. This is where my roots are, and I’m excited to give back,” he expressed.
In addition to his on-field contributions, Krishna is set to take on a mentoring role at Bula FC, where he aims to inspire a young and ambitious squad. “This team is full of hungry players with huge potential. I’m here not just to play, but to help guide them and show them what it takes to succeed at the highest level,” he noted.
Krishna’s return aligns with Bula FC’s vision to establish itself in Oceania’s inaugural professional football league, and he is enthusiastic about being part of that journey. “It’s not just about me. I want these young players to go even further than I did, and I want to be part of helping them achieve that,” he stated.
Family considerations also influenced his decision, as Krishna cherishes the opportunity to spend more quality time at home with his wife and daughter after years abroad. “Being able to share my days with them here is the icing on the cake,” he added.
Fans are eagerly awaiting Krishna’s impact as he dons the number 21 jersey for Bula FC, hoping his leadership and finishing skills will guide the club on its historic path. The team will face Vanuatu United FC in their season opener on November 17 in Auckland, New Zealand. Krishna’s return brings not just the promise of individual brilliance, but also hope for the growth and success of local football.
