Residents of Rotuma are set to gain from enhanced sports infrastructure aimed at boosting youth involvement and fostering community engagement. Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Aliki Bia, announced in Parliament on March 9 that the construction of a multi-purpose hardcourt will begin on the island later this month. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ broader efforts to expand athletic opportunities in communities with limited facilities.
In addition to the hardcourt, Bia unveiled plans for the development of a community sports ground in Rotuma. He emphasized that such facilities are vital for encouraging young people to engage in sports, promoting healthier lifestyles, and nurturing stronger social ties within the community.
Bia highlighted that increasing access to sports infrastructure is also crucial for young athletes on the island, allowing them to develop their talents and seek opportunities in competitive sports. This investment in sports infrastructure not only addresses the immediate needs of the youth but also fosters a culture of health and community involvement, paving the way for future generations to thrive.
