Rotuma Remains Under Heavy Rain Warning as Fiji Experiences Showers and Thunderstorms

Weather Update

Look out, Fiji! It seems like the clouds are having a gossip fest today because there’s a bit of a mixed bag in the skies. Good news, though – the previous heavy rain warnings for the northern and eastern parts have been laid to rest, so you can put away your snorkeling gear for now. The flash flood alert is also off the table, so breathe easy!

Currently, an active trough of low pressure has been hanging around just east of us, but don’t worry – it’s expected to start packing its bags by tonight.

As we step into the forecast for the next 24 hours, prepare for some charming showers and the occasional mood swing in the form of isolated thunderstorms, especially over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and those tiny islands nearby. If you’re lounging around in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Kadavu, or their mini friends, expect a visit from some clouds along with a few showers.

Now, let’s not forget about those localised heavy falls that might channel their inner ‘waterfall’ and cause a splash in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Elsewhere? Sun’s out with just a cheeky afternoon or evening shower to remind you of the unpredictable nature of our dear weather. And yes, Viti Levu might decide to throw in a bit of thunder as well. Exciting times!

Looking ahead to Saturday, get ready for some clouds planning a reunion, with showers and isolated thunderstorms in many areas including the Northern Division, Taveuni, and those regions previously mentioned. But don’t pack the sunscreen just yet; fine spells are likely to pop up between the rain.

For our lovely residents in Navua, Suva, or Nausori: it looks cloudy with some showers tomorrow, with temperatures ranging from a cozy 23 to a warm 29. Saturday continues the cloud party with a similar forecast.

If you’re chilling out in Sigatoka or the Coral Coast, sunny times are on your agenda apart from those sneaky afternoon showers. So, it’s a warm-up with temps flirting between 23 to 30.

Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba? Expect some sunshine interruption this week. Your high will reach a comfortable 32 tomorrow, before dipping to 30 on Saturday. Bring your raincoat for the brief afternoon showers though!

Meanwhile, Tavua and Rakiraki can sit back and enjoy mostly fine weather with just a polite visit from the occasional shower.

In our more tropical regions such as Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni, expect some lively showers and thunderstorms to spice things up.

For those living in Lau and Lomaiviti, it’s similar: a mix of showers and thunderstorms tops the menu.

Kadavu will see cloudy periods well saturated with showers, keeping the pleasant vibes afloat.

However, Rotuma isn’t getting the same treatment; a heavy rain warning is still very much in effect with consistent showers and the possibility of thunderstorms—time to grab that raincoat!

So, grab a cup of something warm, embrace those cloudy skies, and enjoy the cozy weather while it lasts!
