Rotuma Incest Case: Sentencing Looms for Father of Three

A 48-year-old man who was convicted for incest involving his 18-year-old biological daughter in Rotuma is set to receive his sentencing tomorrow. The man, a father of three, pleaded guilty to one count of incest by a relative and one count of sexual assault, which occurred in 2025.

Earlier this week, he acknowledged the summary of facts presented in the High Court in Suva, where Justice Daniel Goundar is overseeing the case. During the proceedings, the prosecution was represented by ODPP Lawyer Yelena Sautu. Currently, the man remains in custody and is scheduled to be held until December 4.

This case highlights the ongoing need for stringent measures to address sexual offenses and protect vulnerable individuals in society. As the judicial process continues, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability and justice in cases of sexual misconduct.
