Swire Shipping Fijian Drua coach Glen Jackson commended his team for their determination during their opening match against Moana Pasifika, even though it presented several challenges. Jackson particularly highlighted the exceptional leadership of debutant captain Timo Mayanavanua, who he described as “outstanding” in guiding the team through a demanding 80 minutes.

Reflecting on the match, Jackson admitted that his squad struggled to gain momentum. “We didn’t get the start we were after. With the number of stoppages, it’s becoming a bit like an NFL game. Anytime we try to build momentum, the heat and interruptions seem to hold us back. It’s been a long game, and it’s difficult for everything to get going,” he noted.

He also recognized strong individual performances from players like Manasa Mataele and Isaac Fines-Leleiwasa, emphasizing the team’s commitment to a brand of fast but safe rugby. “We always talk about protecting the athlete, and that makes it tough when you have long breaks, halftime, and stoppages. But overall, there were some good moments,” Jackson remarked.

Despite the difficulties faced during the match, Jackson is optimistic about the team’s potential for growth, citing Mayanavanua’s leadership as a bright spot in the tougher opening encounter. The Drua will face the Waratahs next Friday at 8:35 PM, with live coverage available on FBC Sports. With the right adjustments, fans remain hopeful for an improved performance in the upcoming match.
