Former Marist Brothers High School student Roland Williams has advanced in The Voice Australia after winning against Jaydin Shingleton in the competition’s Battles stage. The two performed US singer Teddy Swims’ popular song “Lose Control,” which was selected for them by their coach Guy Sebastian. Swims expressed his excitement in a video message, sharing that he was both “absolutely honoured and thrilled” to hear their rendition of his song.
After their performances, Guy Sebastian remarked that one artist stood out as being more at ease with the song, and that artist was Roland Williams. Williams first made a name for himself in the Fijian music scene in 2007 as part of the Suva-based band One2Eight. He later moved to New Zealand, where he achieved success in 2009 by winning the Maori Television singing competition Homai Te Pakipaki with his version of Billy Paul’s classic “Me And Mrs Jones.”
