Roland Williams, a former student of Marist Brothers High School, has made significant strides in The Voice Australia by triumphing over Jaydin Shingleton during the Battles stage of the competition.
The pair performed Teddy Swims’ popular track ‘Lose Control,’ which was selected for them by their coach Guy Sebastian. In a message directed at Williams and Shingleton, Swims expressed his excitement and honor in hearing their rendition of his song.
After their performance, Guy Sebastian noted that one artist seemed more comfortable with the song, identifying Roland Williams as that standout performer.
Williams first gained recognition in the Fijian music scene in 2007 as part of the Suva-based band One2Eight. He later moved to New Zealand and captured the title of Maori Television’s singing competition, Homai Te Pakipaki, in 2009 with his rendition of Billy Paul’s classic ‘Me And Mrs Jones’ from 1972.
