Traffic diversions and changes in road alignments are set to commence in two weeks as part of the construction of the new Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge, according to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA). This project will address critical infrastructure needs after the demolition of the old bridge, paving the way for enhanced traffic flow, safety, and overall resilience against natural disasters.

Key modifications include shifts in road alignment to facilitate improvements on bridge approach roads, the movement of heavy construction machinery around the Tamavua-i-Wai River area, and adjustments to traffic flow between Reservoir Road and Nadonumai Road. Additionally, speed limits will be reduced along this section of Queens Road to ensure the safety of both road users and construction staff.

This bridge reconstruction, funded with significant backing from the Japanese government, aims not only to modernize the transport link but also to bolster economic growth in the region. The initiative is expected to replace the previous two-lane structure with a more capable four-lane thoroughfare, completing by June 2027. The FRA encourages the community to plan their travel and exercise caution in the area during this period of improvement.

This proactive development reflects Fiji’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading its infrastructure, promoting safer and more efficient travel, and ultimately fostering long-term economic opportunities. The FRA is dedicated to keeping the public informed and will provide further updates as the project progresses.
