Residents of Nalawai in Dreketi are voicing their concerns about the deteriorating road conditions in their area, which are causing notable transportation challenges, especially during the rainy season. Dhirendra Kumar, a local resident, highlighted that the ongoing poor state of the roads significantly impacts the bus service, which struggles to function effectively due to the muddy and treacherous terrain.

“The bus comes here regularly, but the road is in such poor condition that it becomes nearly impassable during heavy rains,” Kumar stated. He explained that the road, which connects Nalawai to key transportation routes, lacks adequate gravel and often turns into a quagmire filled with mud and holes. “Getting in or out of the village can take hours as people get stuck and have to be cleared away,” he added.

As discussions in Parliament continue regarding the budget, residents are urgently appealing to the government to prioritize road repairs, emphasizing that these issues have persisted for years. “We just want a safe and reliable road to get to work, school, and the market without the worry of getting stuck in mud,” Kumar insisted.

In light of this, the situation in Nalawai reflects broader concerns echoed by residents in other areas, such as Korotari, where drivers and farmers have condemned similar infrastructure failures. Recent reports have detailed the hazardous conditions of roadways in Korotari as well, highlighting how poor drainage and maintenance are leading to dangerous driving environments. Residents there have also called for immediate government action to address these urgent issues.

The collective outcry from these communities underscores a significant need for the government to attend to infrastructure development, which is vital for ensuring the safety and economic stability of residents. Local leaders and citizens alike are advocating for necessary improvements, showcasing a hopeful desire for action that could lead to enhanced road safety and accessibility for all affected communities.
