A tragic incident has claimed the life of a man in his 30s, marking the latest addition to the country’s road fatalities. According to police reports, the man was a passenger in a vehicle driven by another man, also in his 30s, when they were involved in a serious crash along the Queens Highway near Wainigasau on February 18.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the opposite lane where it collided head-on with an approaching car. The victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The driver remains hospitalized, while the occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash are reported to be in stable condition.
This incident adds to the concerning rise in road deaths, with the national toll now standing at seven this year, a significant increase compared to just two during the same period last year. In light of this alarming trend, police are urging all drivers to remain vigilant and exercise caution while on the roads. Authorities emphasize that road safety is a collective responsibility that requires attention from all road users to prevent further tragedies.
