The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken decisive action by suspending the driving licenses of two individuals who were captured in controversial videos exhibiting behaviors that pose a threat to public safety. LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa condemned these actions, emphasizing that such conduct reflects a blatant disregard for road safety measures and the sanctity of human life.
The individuals in question have been called to attend show cause proceedings as per Regulation 30 of the Land Transport (Driver) Regulations 2000, following their reckless activities, which were recorded and circulated on social media. This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all road users, particularly drivers, to refrain from engaging in reckless behavior that endangers themselves and others.
“While some may consider such actions amusing for social media, they have serious implications—these behaviors risk human lives,” Rokosawa stated. He stressed that reckless driving for personal enjoyment is both irresponsible and unacceptable, endangering the safety of all road users.
In collaboration with the Fiji Police Force and other organizations, the Authority is committed to promoting the message that every life on the roads is vital. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and it is essential for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike to feel safe when traveling.
Rokosawa reminded the public that engaging in reckless behavior that contravenes traffic regulations is intolerable and urged all road users to reconsider their actions before opting for behaviors that could lead to harm.
In a world increasingly influenced by social media, it is hopeful to see authorities advocating for the importance of responsible behavior on the roads. By promoting awareness and accountability, we can foster a culture that values safety and respect for life, making our roads safer for all.
