The Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety within the nation. In a recent statement, he highlighted the proactive measures being taken by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which has frozen the client IDs of 238 individuals pending showcause proceedings due to reckless driving and other dangerous behaviors that endanger public safety.
Minister Tuisawau pointed out that careless and reckless driving have significantly contributed to a troubling increase in preventable accidents. He emphasized the importance of addressing behavior-related offenses, noting that many road fatalities stem from individuals choosing to drive while intoxicated or engaging in hazardous actions behind the wheel. This blatant disregard for established road safety laws and the wellbeing of others will not be tolerated, according to the Minister.
To further underline the seriousness of the situation, he reported that from January to mid-December of this year, the LTA has revoked 62 driving licenses and has suspended an additional 26.
