Ratu Navula College is serious about clinching the Vodafone Deans Trophy. This was emphasized by the Under-18 team manager, Mitieli Qumi, following their 16-10 victory over Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in the quarterfinals.
In an interview, Qumi stated that the team’s objective is to reestablish the superiority of Western teams in the national finals. “MGM were the favorites to win this year,” he noted, acknowledging the challenge posed by their opponents. “We looked up to them when we came to Suva since they were a very good team,” he added.
The RNC players demonstrated strong defense in the final moments of the match, preventing MGM from scoring. Despite reaching the semifinals, Qumi indicated that there is still a need for improvement. “There were mistakes, but we will regroup and come back a better team,” he stated.
Ratu Navula College will compete against defending Deans Trophy champions Queen Victoria School in the semifinals. “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our biggest strength is the spiritual support from our families and the school,” Qumi concluded.
