Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) is set to compete in next week’s Vodafone Deans Under-18 semifinals after securing a decisive 34-7 victory over Cuvu College in the quarterfinal match held at Church Park in Lautoka. This win marks RKS’s return to the semifinals after being edged out by Cuvu in a narrow defeat last year.

Despite encountering challenges, including three yellow cards during the match, RKS showcased a robust defensive performance, preventing Cuvu from converting their scoring opportunities into points. The team’s captain and flyhalf, Lemeki Ravukivuki, who is also a national under-20 representative, played a pivotal role in the match. He scored a crucial try after launching a quick tap from close range and was instrumental in orchestrating the team’s attacks.

The match began with No. 8 Tevita Rokosuka setting the tone by scoring the first try under the posts. RKS capitalized on their advantage with further penalties by Epeli Vocea, leading 20-0 at halftime. A standout moment came from prop Esira Livicala, who executed a magnificent sprint from a set-piece play to add another try. The final nail in Cuvu’s hopes came when Ravukivuki sliced through their defense to score, solidifying RKS’s commanding lead. Although Josua Tuwai of Cuvu managed to score a consolation try late in the game, it was not enough to alter the outcome.

RKS’s powerful performance against Cuvu highlights their capacity for resilience and skill, paving their way as strong contenders in the upcoming semifinals.

This match not only serves as a redemption for RKS, who faced heartbreak last year, but also showcases the competitive spirit and talent present in the under-18 rugby scene. With their eyes set on the championship, RKS fans have much to look forward to in the semifinals.
