Rising Tides: Disturbing Surge in Child Sexual Offences Revealed

A 28-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his five-year-old niece, while a 29-year-old man faces multiple charges, including two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving his 15-year-old niece.

These incidents have been reported in the latest statistics from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which documented sexual offenses for September. The ODPP revealed that 10 individuals were charged with a total of 25 sexual offense counts during the month. These charges include 16 counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, two counts of indecent assault, and five counts of sexual assault.

Among the ten victims, eight were minors, comprising two male and eight female victims. In another case, a 46-year-old man was charged with raping his 41-year-old wife.

Additionally, a 20-year-old man faces four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, two counts of indecent assault, and one count of sexual assault against his 17-year-old cousin. Another case involves a 29-year-old man who was charged with attempted rape and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl from his community, and a 20-year-old man who allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl from his village.

Two cases were dropped after motions for discontinuance were filed, citing insufficient evidence, and the victims could not be reached or located.
