Rising Tide of Child Abuse: A Call for Action

The issue of child abuse is becoming increasingly urgent, according to Assistant Minister for Women and Children, Sashi Kiran. She emphasized that the rising statistics are not just figures but represent the real anguish faced by vulnerable children in society. During a recent workshop focused on enhancing mental health and psychological support services, Kiran called for a concerted effort among government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to address this critical challenge.

Kiran stated that training sessions like this are crucial in providing professionals with the necessary skills to better support and safeguard children who are victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. “We gather here not only to enhance professional capacity but to reaffirm our collective responsibility to protect our most vulnerable—the children,” she noted.

She further highlighted that children who endure various forms of abuse often face long-term mental health challenges that can severely impact their well-being. Moreover, Kiran pointed out the importance of addressing the emotional needs of these children, warning that neglecting their mental health could perpetuate a cycle of abuse, where victims may grow into future perpetrators.

This initiative reflects a positive move towards not only recognizing the gravity of child abuse but actively working to prevent it and support its victims. Collaborative efforts like this workshop are essential for fostering a safer environment for children and ensuring they receive the care and protection they need.

In summary, the rising tide of child abuse cases brings to light the urgent need for collective action and support systems to safeguard vulnerable children and prevent the cycle of abuse. Together, stakeholders can make significant strides in creating a more protective society for the next generation.
