Rising Stars: Vakalalabure Brothers Set to Shine in Boxing Event

The sons of former Fiji welterweight champion Tevita Vakalalabure are set to compete in the South Pacific Boxing Promotions (SPBP) in Labasa on Friday, August 10.

SPBP promoter Fred Chand confirmed that Vakalalabure’s sons, Kimo and Kali, will be part of the event. “They are training with their dad at Natewa Bay,” Chand stated.

In an exhibition bout, Kimo will fight against Nasoni Rawaci of Bua, while Kali will take on Junior Saula of Labasa in a four-round contest.

Chand mentioned that the promotion aims to help revive boxing in Vanua Levu. “The last boxing programme in Labasa was nine years ago,” he added.

The North has been known for producing renowned boxers like Isimeli Radrodro, Atunaisa Camaibau, Inia Catarogo, Samuela Vocea, Sikeli Veitala, Lorima Rakula, Noa Bukai, Vakalabure, Atama Raqili, Nat Ledua, Jare Lalakai, Bobby Shah, Setefano Vasuibau, and Sharamat Shah, among others.

The main bout will feature Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill going up against Roy ‘Tsunami’ Ser of Vanuatu. The programme will also feature three title fights.
