Repeka Koroi and Veronika Rabuliwaisavu, students from Vudibasoga Catholic School in Seaqaqa, Macuata, have received full scholarships from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School, which will allow them to continue their education. Their scholarships are a result of their impressive performances at the 2024 Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships held last month.
Repeka Koroi triumphed in the Under-14 girls category, securing gold medals in the 800 meters and the 1500 meters events. Meanwhile, Veronika Rabuliwaisavu from Lomaloma Village earned a gold medal in the Under-13 girls 400 meters final and also achieved a silver medal in the 200 meters final.
The talented athletes expressed gratitude to their coach, Iosefo Apisai, who is also their teacher. Apisai takes pride in the success of his students and highlighted that their involvement in the hostel setting allowed him to train them effectively. Under his guidance, Vudibasoga Catholic School achieved remarkable results, securing a total of five gold medals, three silver, and two bronze across the competition.
Repeka dreams of becoming a primary school teacher and thanks her father, Epeli Balawa, for making it possible for her to accept the scholarship. She is determined to represent Fiji in the Olympic Games, inspired by her faith. Veronika, the first in her family to achieve such accolades, is deeply appreciative of her father’s encouragement as a yaqona farmer, and she feels honored to represent MGM High School.
The head teacher of Vudibasoga Catholic School, Inoke Biaunisala, expressed pleasure in the increased number of students receiving scholarships through this initiative. He aims to continue preparing students for future competitions and achievements.
