The son of former Flying Fijian rugby star Rupeni Caucaunibuca, Rupeni Caucaunibuca Jr., has made headlines by clinching the blue-ribbon title at the Triple N Zone athletics competition. Competing for Naitasiri Secondary School, he clocked an impressive 11.02 seconds in the senior boys’ 100m final held yesterday.

Caucaunibuca Jr. outpaced Ashytosh Sinha from Nakasi High School, who finished second with a time of 11.34 seconds, while Ratu Samuela Karikar Kunadei from Lelean Memorial School secured third place at 11.38 seconds. In addition to his 100m triumph, Caucaunibuca Jr. also excelled in the senior boys’ 200m heats prior to the final.

On the girls’ side of the competition, Imeri Nasali of Adi Cakobau School showcased stellar performance by winning the senior girls’ 100m event with a time of 12.88 seconds. Nina Sigaitu from Lelean Memorial School followed in second place at 13.66 seconds, and Senikau Taleitaki of ACS took third at 13.72 seconds.

The ongoing excitement at the Triple N Zone meet, which concludes today, reinforces the spirit of competition and talent development among Fiji’s youth athletes.
