Marist Brothers High School’s Kirikiti Biu and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School’s Glandness Simpson were honored as the 2025 Coca-Cola Games National Champions’ Best Athletes for their impressive performances in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, respectively.
Kirikiti Biu made history by becoming only the second athlete from the sub-junior category to claim this title, following in the footsteps of Jale Raikatalau from Ratu Kadavulevu School, who earned the honor in 2023. Biu showcased his formidable skills by clinching three gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events for Marist Brothers.
In the girls’ division, Glandness Simpson equally shined, achieving gold medals in the senior girls’ 800m, 1500m, and 4x400m races. Both athletes demonstrated a remarkable commitment to their sport, underlining the quality of training and talent present in the Fiji athletic community.
The competition saw Marist Brothers High School retaining its title in the boys’ division, ending the games with a commendable 12 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Conversely, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial emerged as the leading school in the girls’ division, with an impressive tally of 20 golds, 8 silvers, and 5 bronzes.
This spirited event, held at HFC Bank Stadium, not only celebrated athletic achievement but also fostered a vibrant community atmosphere, illustrating the importance of nurturing young talents within educational institutions. The great performances of both schools are a hopeful sign for the future of athletics in Fiji, inspiring the next generation of athletes to strive for excellence.
