Rising Star: Young Golfer Reflects on Fiji Open Experience

Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student from Nabua Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for the experience he gained at the Fiji Golf Open. He participated in the junior category tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.

“It was my first time participating in the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m pleased with my scores,” Digitaki stated. He noted feeling pressured during the game, which led to several poor swings that impacted his performance.

Digitaki appreciated the opportunity to compete alongside his two uncles and older siblings at the event, where they won prizes including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them for free makes us very proud,” he added.

He mentioned facing the challenge of carrying his golf bag, which contributed to his fatigue during the tournament. “I need to work on managing the pressure to enhance my performance in the next tournament,” he said. He also expressed his gratitude to God for the strength he received throughout the three-day competition.

In addition, Digitaki acknowledged Complete Insurance Services for sponsoring his golf membership. “Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to participate in the tournament,” he explained. He also extended thanks to Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci, who assisted both him and other junior players in competing.

He expressed appreciation for the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten junior players with free entry into the tournament. “Many juniors participating cannot afford the entry fee,” Digitaki remarked. He concluded by thanking his family and teachers for their support and guidance throughout the tournament.
