Tavaita Tikoisuva showcased her exceptional talent by scoring a hat-trick for the Rewa under-19 girls football team, leading them to a remarkable 5-0 win against Nasinu in the recent round of the Fiji Football Association’s under-19 girls youth league competition. The match, which took place last Saturday, also featured two own goals from the Nasinu team, solidifying Rewa’s dominance.
Initially anxious about the game due to the inclusion of new teammates, Tikoisuva’s confidence blossomed as the match unfolded. “I was very worried about playing today because of the players and there were new players coming in,” she admitted. However, she quickly found her footing and expressed gratitude for the collective effort that propelled the team to victory. “Thanks to the Lord for leading us like this, I was very proud in scoring the goals with the help of the players and supporters,” she stated.
Tikoisuva also highlighted some hurdles the team is facing, particularly the low attendance at training, with only two players often available due to others transitioning to tertiary education. Despite these challenges, she expressed satisfaction with her team’s fitness and extended her thanks to the Rewa football officials and families for their unwavering support.
At just 17 years old, Tikoisuva has already made an impact in the football community, previously being the youngest player on the Rewa women’s football team during last year’s Digicel Fiji Women’s Inter-District Championship.
This latest victory not only underscores the commitment and spirit of the Rewa under-19 squad but also points to a promising future for women’s football in Fiji. Following the successes of the Rewa under-16 team, this victory further illustrates the growth and potential within the local football scene, reflecting a broader trend of talent development and community support in Fijian women’s sports.
Tikoisuva’s outstanding performance is a reminder of the significance of teamwork, dedication, and the supportive environment that fosters competitive and successful sports teams in Fiji. This positive momentum can inspire future generations of female athletes to pursue their goals in sports.
