Semi Nabenu, a talented 20-year-old central defender, has been officially included in the Auckland FC Reserves squad for the current season. Born into a footballing family, he is the son of Waisea Nabenu, a former Tavua, Ba, and national representative, and the younger brother of Simione Nabenu, who previously played for the Fiji U23 national team.

Nabenu has built a solid foundation in his career, having played for clubs such as Birkenhead United, Auckland United, Onehunga Sports, Central United, and Bay Olympic during his time in New Zealand. His experience and performances at various levels have earned him recognition, and he has also proudly represented Fiji in age-grade categories.

Looking ahead, Nabenu is among the extended squad for the upcoming OFC World Cup qualifier semifinal against New Zealand’s All Whites next month. A standout performance in this crucial match could elevate his chances of securing a position in the main team, potentially making him the second Fijian to compete in the A-League, following in the footsteps of Roy Krishna, who enjoyed successful seasons with Wellington Phoenix.

This news not only highlights Nabenu’s personal achievements but also represents hope for Fijian football on the international stage, showcasing the potential of young athletes from the region. With determination and hard work, Nabenu could further inspire future generations of footballers from Fiji.
