Labasa’s promising young sprinter, Javish Lal, is considering offers from schools but is adamant about the conditions that would make such a move feasible. The eighth-grader from Tabia Primary School showcased his athletic prowess once again by earning a medal in the under-14 category at the Labasa Primary Schools Athletics competition held at Subrail Park, impressing hundreds of spectators with his performance.

“I’m happy with my performance today, but I’m always looking to improve,” Javish stated. This achievement adds to his accolades, including a gold medal in the U13 grade during the national primary school athletics meet in Lautoka. “This was through the pushing and encouragement from my coaches,” he added, highlighting the support he receives.

Though interest has arisen from schools in Suva, Javish is resolute: he will only consider relocating if a full scholarship and accommodation are provided. “I come from a poor family, and it would be hard to live in Suva without proper support. If they offer me a scholarship and a place to stay, I’ll definitely consider it, but without that, I can’t go,” he explained.

His father, Gitendra Lal, shares his concerns regarding the potential offer, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that they can support Javish adequately. “We don’t have the means to provide for him to live in Suva. It’s a big decision, and we want to make sure everything is in place first,” Gitendra said. He remains hopeful that a school will recognize the talent and passion for athletics that his son possesses.

This situation presents a valuable opportunity for educational institutions to invest in young talent and support aspiring athletes from less privileged backgrounds. Javish’s dedication and clear vision are commendable and reflect a hopeful future not just for him but for all young athletes facing similar challenges.

Summary: Javish Lal, an eighth-grader from Tabia Primary School, seeks offers from schools while specific conditions need to be met regarding scholarships and accommodation due to his family’s financial constraints. His recent athletic achievements reaffirm his potential and determination to succeed.
