Rising Star: Jared Levai’s Journey to Athletic Glory

Seventeen-year-old Jared Ma’afu Levai achieved a significant milestone in his athletic career by winning the senior boys’ blue-ribbon title at the LDS Church College inter-house competition held at HFC Bank Stadium. His victory in the 100 meters has been a lifelong dream for Levai, who expressed his appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices it took to achieve this goal.

Levai’s performance extended beyond just the 100 meters, as he also showcased his versatility by participating in the triple jump and the 4x100m relay. Last year, he represented his school at the Fiji Finals, competing in both events and demonstrating his competitive spirit. With aspirations to secure a medal in the upcoming zone competition, he aims to meet the qualifying time of 10.9 seconds for the Pacific Mini Games, currently holding a personal best of 11.17 seconds.

Training rigorously at the Laucala Bay athletics club under coach Bola Tafoou, Levai dedicates six days a week to improve his speed and endurance. He acknowledges the critical role his family and friends play in supporting and motivating him throughout his journey.

In addition to athletics, Levai balances his sporting endeavors by also playing basketball for his school, showcasing his dedication and passion for sports. The LDS inter-house competition brought together over 200 athletes, highlighting a vibrant sporting spirit and community involvement that fosters athletic talent and teamwork among students.

Levai’s accomplishments resonate with a positive trend in Fijian sports culture, where young athletes are increasingly motivated to excel while supporting one another in their pursuits. This atmosphere of encouragement and healthy competition reflects a commitment to personal and collective growth within the sports community, signaling a promising future for aspiring athletes in Fiji.
