Seventeen-year-old Kelera Mudunasoko, a talented swimmer from Natabua High School, is on the verge of making her mark at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, scheduled for the end of this month. Kelera has showcased her skills in the 50, 100, and 200 meters breaststroke events during the Fiji National School Swimming Championship, training diligently under the mentorship of coach Rosemary Rova.

Originally hailing from Levuka, Lakeba in Lau, with connections to Nadroga, Kelera has made a significant transition from athletics to swimming this year. Despite facing challenges, such as the rigorous schedule of early morning training sessions, she has remained committed to honing her technique and physical fitness. “One of the hardest parts for me was just waking up early. I usually had to get up at 5am to train,” she shared, emphasizing the dedication required to succeed in her new sport.

Representing Fiji holds immense significance for Kelera, as she aims to perform well not just for herself, but for her family, her school, and her country. “I wanted to do my best for my family, my school, and for Fiji,” she stated with a sense of honor.

Kelera’s journey resonates with the aspirations of other young athletes from Fiji preparing for the same Mini Games, including her peers such as Kelerayani Koroi and Iris Rae Fisher, who are also gearing up to proudly don the national colors in their respective sports. The collaborative spirit and enthusiasm among these athletes highlight a collective ambition to excel on an international stage.

As the Pacific Mini Games approach, the stories of resilience, determination, and community support from Kelera and her fellow athletes convey a hopeful narrative for the future of sports in Fiji. Their dedication serves not only as inspiration for each other but also sets a remarkable example for future generations of athletes in the region.

This collective effort demonstrates a commitment to fostering sports and nurturing young talents, affirming a bright future for Fiji’s athletic community.
